Audio Technica Ath-W5000 Review

Audio Technica Ath-W5000

The Audio Technica Ath-W5000 – Very Nice Cans

If you’re looking into these you probably already know your music and headphones.  Audio Technica makes great quality over ear phones and these are at the top of their products.   When I first listened to these in one of my sound engineering classes back in school I was hooked.  Too bad I couldn’t afford them but I got to listen to them in school all the time.   They are so crisp and natural sounding I could pick up every little nuance of the music, you could hear pages turning in some classical songs and really hear guitar plucking.   These headphones used to be hard to find and only available for import but they have made their way on to the internet.   The cheapest spot I found was Amazon and they have more reviews.  But I’ll add some of the specs and qualities of the headphones below.

Audio Technica Ath-W5000 Specs

  • Striped ebony housing for great acoustic characteristics
  • Leather Ear Pad Cushions
  • Nice big 53 mm drivers (equipped with neodymium magnet systems) designed exclusively for the W5000
  • Driver unit incorporates a Permendur magnetic circuit with exceptional magnetic characteristics
  • High-quality 8N-OFC (oxygen free copper) voice coils for ultra-efficient signal transfer

Here are some more specs about the Audio Technica Ath-W5000 from their website.

These are great overall headphones and if you ever get a chance to listen to them I suggest you do.

You can try and find them above if you’re looking to buy them, but most places they have been sold out or not selling at all.   Last time I checked Headroom has some on sale.

If you’re a headphone afficienado then you know how freaking cool these are, not just the amazing sound that you would expect for the price tag.  But they have such a great look and polished design it’s hard not to fall in love with them if you’re an audiophile.   If you have some other headphones that you have tried that compare to these I would love to hear from you.

Best Noise Cancelling Headphones $50-$100

German engineering at work here, they know how to build headphones that’s for sure.  These are the best noise cancelling headphones under $100 range in our opinion.   Most all the reviews rave about these headphones and the only negatives we see are they can be tight if you have a big head.   If that is a problem you can easily stretch them out a bit before using them.  They have pretty extreme isolation on them for a passive noise cancelling headphone.  Compared to Bose, Beats By Dre, Tritton, Sony and others these blow them away in the price range and even out of there price range.   Great mids and high’s, some say the bass is a little anemic but you can eq that.  A lot of other headphones have great bass but it drowns out the mids too much, but these are just right.

-Great passive (no batteries needed) noise cancellation, up to 32 dB of ambient noise attenuation.  They also don’t have sound leakage so people next to you won’t hear what you’re listening to or be disturbed.

-Great High’s and Mid’s

-Durable- Many say they’re unbreakable.

-Awesome wide frequency response of 8Hz to 25kHz

-Some say it can be tight if you have a big head, but that’s easy to fix by stretching them out some.

-Some say your ears can get sweaty after a while, but just let them air out and you’re fine.

-Slightly anemic bass, but it can be EQ’ed and many others that have more bass drowned out the mids horribly.

Sennheiser HD-280 PRO

Watch Conan, Leno and many other T.V shows and you will see Sennheiser.  They make great quality headphones that last and they put love into there headphones.   These have raving reviews and many people couldn’t do without these headphones.  They are a step up from the under $50 headphones but can hang with many of the $200 dollar headphones, they’re a great quality headphone for sure.
